Why the NFL Overtime rules should be changed sooner rather than later  By Demetrius Singletary      This past Sunday the Bills lost in overtime to the Chiefs and easily was a top 3 playoff game of all time. Josh Allen was having a perfect playoffs as he threw for 9 touchdowns, zero interceptions, and less than 15 total incompletions which is unreal for a Qb. The game itself was insane and the final score after regulation was 36-36. Both Quarterbacks (Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen) were having amazing games and there was an overtime period! But that’s where things start to get unfortunate for the Bills. To decide who starts with the ball first in overtime you do a coin flip and if you’re correct on your guess between heads or tails you can decide if you want to play offense or defense first (Almost all teams choose offense in this case). So the Chiefs won the coin flip and decided to get the ball first. If you were a bills fan you were probably worried because all the Chiefs needed t
Top 5 NBA Players and why                                                                   Demetrius Singletary  Lebron James: Amazing Athlete, won 4 MVP’s along with 4 Championships. Has changed the game of basketball like no one else and is in the goat conversation with Michael Jordan.     Kevin Durant: Easily the best scorer in the NBA and arguably the best scorer of all time.  No one in NBA history is 7 feet tall and can do things like Kevin Durant and that’s why he has an MVP and two NBA championships.        Stephen Curry: Best 3-pt Shooter of all time and just broke the record. He and Lebron have the biggest impact on the game of Basketball and Steph has 3 championships along with 2 MVPS and was the first unanimous MVP.        Giannis Antetokounmpo: Just won his first NBA championship last year and is a 2-time MVP. He has averaged 25ppg, 12rpg, and 5apg for 5 straight seasons which have never been done before.        Nikola Jokic: Nikola Jokic is coming off an MVP season and
In this writing, I am going to talk about my opinion on love. And yes, I know what you’re thinking, this is going to be cheesy and boring, maybe it will end  out that way, but these are just my thoughts and opinions.    There are three types of love. The kinds you would kill for the type you would die for, and the type you would live for. The kind you kill for is how you wish yo u were loved. The kind you die for is when you love someone so much you would do absolutely anything to get them and or be with them. The kind you live for is wanting to spend forever with them. You love them so much and they make you feel so incredible that it’s unexplainable. Which makes you want to experience the rest of your life with them because they make you that happy when you’re around them. Love is an amazing feeling, but it can also be the most dangerous and worst feeling in the world. It can make you do great things for yourself and other people. But it can also tear you apart from the inside out
Typhoid Mary: Quarantine before Ours By: Anya Niven             As Covid-19 is prevalent in America and much of the world, many are making comparisons to other pandemics and epidemics in history. Although not the most popularly referenced, the disease typhoid fever and its outbreaks had many similarities to (especially the early stages of) the coronavirus pandemic. One of the biggest outbreaks of typhoid fever occurred in New York City from 1906-1907, and one woman became a symbol for the disease, even gaining the nickname, “Typhoid Mary”.    Mary Mallon, an Irish immigrant who came to the United States at age 15, had lived most of her life in the U.S. and had recently become a home chef for various wealthy families in the New York City area. Mallon was also an asymptomatic carrier of the bacteria  Salmonella typhi , which causes typhoid fever, meaning she carried and could pass on typhoid fever to others, though she would never herself have symptoms of the disease. Due to the nature
Planned and Perceived Obsolescence in the Fast Fashion Industry By: Anya Niven The fast fashion industry is one of the quickest growing industries and has been for many years. It is growing to be one of the most polluting industries in the world. Fast fashion is defined by The Urban Garden Initiative organization as, “Cheap, stylish clothing that samples trends from the runway or celebrity culture to turn them into articles of clothing sold in popular street stores at breakneck speed to meet shopper requests”. In fast fashion, the consumer controls production. Styles of clothing items that are seen on runways or in celebrity wardrobes and more frequently, on social media influencers,  and  receive a large amount of traction from this market, can often be found in fast fashion stores/online shops within the week. Fast fashion relies heavily on two strategies that have devastating effects on the environment, perceived obsolescence and planned obsolescence.   Perceived obsolescence occu
Why Cobra Kai Reminiscing Scene By: Cole Cameron               Cobra Kai is a sequel series to the Karate Kid movies from the 1980’s and has easily become my favorite storyline of any kind due to how the characters are respected while also allowing them to grow through a storyline that is able to keep it new and inventive while also using themes of history repeating itself. I could probably go on and on as to why I appreciate how different the series is compared to other things nowadays but for the sake of this, I will go over why one of my favorite scenes from the show works so well. Halfway through the first episode, we see where Johnny Lawrence has ended up in life since the events of the second Karate Kid movie and unfortunately, has not been doing too well. Despite his actions in 1984 towards Daniel, you cannot help but feel bad for him. Contrary to Daniel, Johnny is now the one that lives in poverty while also having other issues such as an alcohol addiction, depression,
Managing shin splints By: Olivia Pernesky What are shin splints in the first place? Shin splints are inflammation of the muscles, tendons and bone tissue around your tibia. They can be caused from a number of activities but it is all due to vigorous sports- like activities. Most commonly running. This small routine will help ease pain, move along recovery and get you moving. Ideally it would be good to do this before any type of exercising.
What actions were taken during the civil rights movement and were they successful? Olivia Pernesky   Before and during the civil rights movement, life for people of color was not good. There were black codes in place for voting, there was lots of segregation, and people of color could not speak their mind without being punished for it. However there were actions taken by abolitionists and the slaves themselves to gain freedom for people of color. Some people spoke out and wrote about the violence in hopes of gaining support from more people, such as Dr. King. Another action taken was the civil rights movements and disobedience. The Black Panther party was founded to protect black people from police brutality, educate people, and provide food for children who needed it. This inspired more black people to join in on these movements. John Lewis also played an important role in almost every civil rights movement to help gain freedom for people of color, he inspired people and stood
The Man in the Mirror    By: Madeline Reid   The chilly air blowing in through the open window wakes me, brushing my hair into my face and wetting my skin with the morning dew . Letting out a breathy sigh I open my eyes and sit up. Stretching my arms out above my head I let out a yawn before peeling the warm covers off my body and letting the chilly air hit it. Stumbling around the room I grab a few random pieces of clothing that lay in a myriad of places around the bedroom. I slowly pull on the loose shirt and jeans and make my way over to the large vanity that sits in the corner of the room. Without looking in the mirror I pull the few makeup items from their places and place them on the vanity . When I look up, I gasp in surprise as I make eye contact with a pair of bright sea-green eyes , that appear to be just as surprised as I am. Taking in the face the eyes belong to I take notice of the strong roman nose that is just slightly crooked, t he thick reddish-brown b eard, and
The Ruthlessness of the Heart    By: Madeline Reid   “The more I love you, the more I hate you.” Those are the words that I never thought I would say, especially to the woman who was my entire future . The light of my life, the beacon of light in my world filled with darkness . Except she wasn’t. With every happy moment came the dark one s . She may not have realized it, but I did. With every joke and smile exchanged, and every intimate moment shared darkness began to seep into my heart. The love I once held for her started to disappear piece by piece . As love chipped away it was replaced with a stale feeling of ha tred that began to grow. I don’t know why this hatred appeared and why it persisted, but I know that I regret every minute that it filled my heart. And so, as I turned my back on the woman who once upon a time was the love of my life I reached up and rubbed the wetness out of my eye, sniffled, and stood up straight. I walked forward and never looked back.

Sleep - S. Smith

Sleep By: Tahquan Smith                 Sleep is one of the most disrespected thing that is necessary to live that is taken for granted. The causes of the absence in the practice are more idiotic and non-beneficial than most think. I believe that a major issue in sleep lose is the use of social platforms designed to keep you and your children engaged and up late. There have been studies proven that social media also known as “TIKTOK’ can be desperately addicting, and an account to why there is a lack of sleep in homes. https://northernstar.info/88661/lifestyle/harmless-fun-on-tiktok-may-be-addiction/ I think a rather extensive precaution should be taken when it comes to time to turn off all of the social medias. I think companies should reals something more than just recommendations videos to exit the application. I think there should be an off and on feature where the users sets time when the app will close and not be reopened until the next day. No matter who access code you

The Journal - O. Passmore

The Journal By: Olivia Passmore It was a night so fine and extraordinary. The boon companions lay hunkered down in their chalet like escape. One could be found, legs twisted on the floor next to the enthusiastic flames of the freshly built fire; notebooks of once clean and crafted art astray in front of them. Another was situated on the bed, a beef witted cat lacking of fur lay sprawled out in their lap. Billows of smoke from the freshly lit incense stay clouding their vision. The third and final can be seen fixed upon the cathedra in the corner, reading what one can only assume was something vastly political. For the night had only begun when a chortle from the first caught the attention of the others. In front lay a journal, pages tattered and falling apart; for this was the first of many creations from this group of three. The friends gathered, amongst them a feeling of nostalgia. The journal had transported them back to the beginning. A time of camaraderie and high hopes. To

Trans Identity - O. Passmore

The Trans Identity By: Olivia Passmore   I yearn for the days in which I will feel at one with myself. What am I to do when I cannot even look myself in the eye? How do I accept myself while knowing this is not the earthly body in which I am meant to occupy? I stare and stare and receive nothing but contempt in return. My hair is too short. Lips too pursed. Eyes too wide, cheeks too flushed, forehead too long. How am I meant to change these things in which cause me restlessness When I am stuck in a society that persecutes my very existence? I know who I am. I know what I am meant to be. So let society persecute me if I dare to destroy all that is holy and let myself be reborn. Let society scream in the name of its foreign god and strike me down with the weight of heaven. I will make peace with myself one day, And I will leave society behind me.
