New Visions Emerging Professions by Corey Ingham

New Visions Emerging Professions

Corey Ingham

The New Visions Emerging Professions program allows students to take part in college courses while also exploring a specific field of interest.  This year long program offered to high school seniors allows students to explore a possible career in justice, healthcare, or emerging professions such as engineering, teaching, or veterinary work.

I was accepted in New Visions during my junior year, and I was interested in learning more about possible engineering fields in which I had an interest.  The program also allowed me to take college credit courses at SUNY Brockport which could be transferred in the future.  The opportunity to take both high school courses, college courses, and take part in job shadowing opportunities allowed me to take full advantage of my senior year.  My favorite part of the New Visions program is it places more individual responsibility on yourself because it requires that you manage your own time and assignments.  Since you go on internships twice a week and only have class three days a week, it is crucial to be responsible and make sure you do not fall behind as it is up to you to manage your own work.  Another aspect of the program that I greatly enjoy is the internships.  They have allowed for me to explore several different fields of engineering by visiting many different engineering firms.  Both the individual responsibility of the program and the opportunity to tour different engineering firms has allowed me to explore what different jobs are available in the field in which I am interested.

My decision to take the New Visions program throughout my senior year has opened up a realm of career opportunities following college.  The knowledge I have gained through my internships has allowed me to narrow down the career I am interested in pursuing as well as explore potential other areas of interest.

Remote Learning During the Pandemic    By Ethan DeSalvo    Remote learning throughout Covid-19 has been a different experience and has presented many learning curves for students. These learning curves have proved difficult for students, but it has also provided teachers the time and situation to adapt to these types of situations and to be better prepared for the future if something similar where to happen. Remote learning has its downfall such as students are not paying attention and doing something else, and the many distractions of one's home. Covid-19 has also forced us to adapt to learning when school is out whether it be due to a pandemic or because of a snow day or something in the school breaks. Remote learning could eliminate the use of snow days though it has its setbacks for that such as power being down in a certain area in a town, and the many distractions of...

Crop analysis- Alfalfa Hay

Crop analysis- Alfalfa Hay By: Connor Ingham                 Alfalfa hay is a leguminous plant that is grown mainly for silage, animal feed, or for a nitrogen supplying cover crop. Alfalfa, unlike most other plants, can grow for up to five production years after the first cutting of hay is complete. Commonly, alfalfa is mixed with other types of grasses, such as timothy hay, or oats that provide wind protection and frost protection during the winter, due to alfalfa’s low height. To begin the planting process, alfalfa can be planted with just a dusting of soil, typically in well drained areas for best quality, during any summertime month. The plant will surface normally within 15 days where it will grow into stems with generally a distinctive tri leaf design. This trend will continue as the plant gains a bush like shape into the mature age (around a height of 12 inches). Once the plant is mature, purple...
